MariaDB ColumnStore Engine Senior DB Engineer

MariaDB Server has many engines all working seamlessly together. One of them is ColumnStore, ground-up designed for data warehousing and analytics. As the name suggests, this is a columnar database, which contains many modern and exciting complexities and possibilities for innovation.

We are a distributed global team, working from home, coworking space and some in offices depending on the location, telecommuting via the internet, and making heavy use of email, web, slack, and similar technologies. Prior experience in this form of working environment is ideal. Candidates must be self-motivated and able to work autonomously.

Responsibility

As the Senior Database Engineer, you are in charge of writing, debugging and testing code. You are also mandated for designing and implementing features to ensure business competitiveness of MariaDB Enterprise. You will participate in requirements analysis and be able to make a risk assessment of larger system design and come up with alternatives to designs. As part of the MariaDB Server engineering team you will be called upon to design, estimate, develop, test and document new features over the entire lifecycle from inception to publication.

Requirements

  • Solid knowledge of SQL
  • Solid knowledge of C/C++, CMake, git
  • 5+ years experience of designing, developing, and maintaining databases, relational or noSQL
  • Experience with open source development
  • Good written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Experience working remotely in geo-distributed teams

Bonus skills

  • Experience with MariaDB and / or MySQL, especially as a developer
  • Experience with popular database performance benchmarks — setting up, running, analyzing results
  • Familiarity with databases in the cloud
  • Experience with Debian packaging
  • Knowledge of Perl, Python, Bash, Java
