The Person

The Regional Account Manager must be an experienced, articulate, highly energetic sales hunter with excellent communication, solution selling, and leadership skills. A successful track record of new customer acquisition and existing account penetration with a demonstrated ability to exceed quota in an entrepreneurial environment is required.

The Role

  • He/she will be responsible for demand creation, account penetration, and revenue generation within the assigned territory. He/she will sell across each of our service and product offering domains; subscription services, consulting, commercial products, selected third-party products, remote DBA and training services. The candidate will report initially to the VP Sales EMEA and APAC.
  • In addition, the candidate must understand, master, and articulate the value proposition for Open Source Software within an enterprise environment and specifically the value proposition for MariaDB. This requires functional product knowledge, a keen understanding of the open source ecosystem, and the enterprise database market, as well as customer’s technical, business and interoperability requirements.


  • Lead and drive account penetration and develop trusted relationships that distinguish MariaDB’s value. In addition, demonstrate the ability to create need amongst customers who currently use Open Source Software without subscription services.
  • Build a pipeline of opportunities executing winning Go-To-Market strategies.
  • Develop and nurture enduring customer relationships that expand revenue opportunities at accounts. The Regional Manager owns an important stake in customer success and satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand a customer's business drivers and tailor a solution that is accretive to the customer's own business.

  • Systemically leverage Go-To-Market (GTM) partnerships to expand the sales presence MariaDB enjoys in the territory.
  • Work effectively with MariaDB’s peer functional organizations, particularly the Marketing organization, which is an important component of lead generation. Utilize the tools and comply with the processes that are critical to planning, tracking and scaling our business.
  • Work closely with the MariaDB technical leadership to plan and allocate the resources needed for pre-sales and post-sales activities. Ensure resources in this regard are used responsibly and that they are aligned with the strategy of the Company.

Required Skills

  • Strong working product knowledge of the database space (open source and commercial products and offerings), as well as high availability solutions.
  • Deep knowledge of the open source ecosystem including community and commercial licensing models.
  • Strong executive communication presence. Excellent communication skills (oral and written in English), including the ability to communicate and sell effectively at senior level.
