MariaDB Enterprise Server can be accessed using compatible client applications and utilities, such as through the
mariadb command-line client or using the MariaDB Connectors. The command-line client is included in Server installations.
In MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.4 and later, the
root user on the local system is configured to use the Unix Socket authentication plugin. This means from the local system you can connect to the database as the
root system user or with
$ sudo mariadb
The client utility also supports connecting to MariaDB Enterprise Server when it's running on a remote host. In this case, you can install the
mariadb command-line client without the Server. When performing a remote connection, use the
-h option to specify the host running the Server:
$ mariadb -u web_admin -p -h 192.0.2.1
