# mysql\_stmt\_fetch

## Syntax

```c
int mysql_stmt_fetch(MYSQL_STMT * stmt);
```

## Parameter

* `stmt` - a statement handle, which was previously allocated by [mysql\_stmt\_init()](/docs/connectors/mariadb-connector-c/api-prepared-statement-functions/mysql_stmt_init.md).

## Description

Fetch the result from a prepared statement into the buffer bound by mysql\_stmt\_bind\_result().

## Return Value

Returns `0` for success, `MYSQL_NO_DATA` if the end of the result set has been reached, or `MYSQL_DATA_TRUNCATED` if one or more values are truncated.

{% hint style="info" %}

* Note that all columns must be bound by the application before calling mysql\_stmt\_fetch().
* Data are transferred unbuffered without calling [mysql\_stmt\_store\_result()](/docs/connectors/mariadb-connector-c/api-prepared-statement-functions/mysql_stmt_store_result.md) which can decrease performance (but reduces memory cost).
* Truncation reporting must be enabled by function [mysql\_optionsv()](/docs/connectors/mariadb-connector-c/api-functions/mysql_optionsv.md) with option `MYSQL_REPORT_DATA_TRUNCATION`
  {% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://mariadb.com/docs/connectors/mariadb-connector-c/api-prepared-statement-functions/mysql_stmt_fetch.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
