What's New in MariaDB ColumnStore 5.4?

MariaDB ColumnStore 5.4 introduces the following new features:

MariaDB Community Server Convergence

MariaDB ColumnStore 5.4 converges with MariaDB Community Server even further:

  • It uses a simplified installation procedure, which is similar to other MariaDB Community Server storage engines.

  • It supports even more queries and other features that are supported by MariaDB Community Server.

MariaDB ColumnStore 5.4 is included with MariaDB Community Server 10.5:


MariaDB ColumnStore 5.4 simplifies the installation process:

  • It is a plugin for MariaDB Community Server.

  • It is deployed by installing a single additional package.

  • Users no longer need to execute columnstore-post-install and postConfigure.

  • It supports running ColumnStore as a non-root user.

MariaDB ColumnStore 5.4 adds support for new clients:


MariaDB ColumnStore 5.4 supports simplified administration:

  • mcsadmin has been removed.

  • ColumnStore 5.4 uses systemd for administration.

  • It provides a new systemd service called mariadb-columnstore, which is used to manage ColumnStore's processes. This systemd service replaces the following mcsadmin commands:

  • It supports cpimport for multi-node ColumnStore deployments that use S3-compatible object storage.

  • It supports IAM roles.

  • It includes the changes in MariaDB ColumnStore 1.5.4.
