# GridGain

GridGain is the in-memory caching and acceleration layer of MariaDB Enterprise Platform.

GridGain is the in-memory caching and acceleration layer of MariaDB Enterprise Platform. It keeps a distributed copy of hot data across a cluster of nodes and serves reads from memory, so latency-sensitive access does not reach the database of record.

GridGain 8 and GridGain 9 each have their own documentation. Open either one from the sidebar or from the links at the bottom of this page.

**GridGain 8** adds in-memory caching and acceleration to a MariaDB deployment. Start with GridGain 8.

**GridGain 9** is documented for existing GridGain 9 deployments. Its architecture differs from GridGain 8.

**Control Center** is the management and monitoring console for GridGain 8 and GridGain 9 clusters. Its documentation is in the Tools section.
