# MaxScale 23.02 MariaDB Protocol Module

The `mariadbprotocol` module implements the MariaDB client-server protocol.

The legacy protocol names `mysqlclient`, `mariadb` and `mariadbclient` are all\
aliases to `mariadbprotocol`.

  * [Configuration](#configuration)
    * [allow\_replication](#allow_replication)

### Configuration

Protocol level parameters are defined in the listeners. They must be defined\
using the scoped parameter syntax where the protocol name is used as the prefix.

```
[MyListener]
type=listener
service=MyService
protocol=mariadbprotocol
mariadbprotocol.allow_replication=false
port=3306
```

For the MariaDB protocol module, the prefix is always `mariadbprotocol`.

#### `allow_replication`

* Type: [boolean](/docs/maxscale/maxscale-archive/archive/mariadb-maxscale-23-02/mariadb-maxscale-23-02-getting-started/mariadb-maxscale-2302-mariadb-maxscale-configuration-guide.md#booleans)
* Mandatory: No
* Dynamic: Yes
* Default: true

Whether the use of the replication protocol is allowed through this listener. If\
disabled with `mariadbprotocol.allow_replication=false`, all attempts to start\
replication will be rejected with a ER\_FEATURE\_DISABLED error (error number\
1289\).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://mariadb.com/docs/maxscale/maxscale-archive/archive/mariadb-maxscale-23-02/mariadb-maxscale-23-02-protocols/mariadb-maxscale-2302-maxscale-2302-mariadb-protocol-module.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
