# Native Authenticator

## Overview

MaxScale's Native Authenticator is compatible with MariaDB Enterprise Server. It authenticates database users with the mysql\_native\_password [authentication plugin](/docs/maxscale/reference/maxscale-authenticators/maxscale-mariadb-mysql-authenticator.md).
