## Overview

MariaDB Connector/R2DBC is a non-blocking interface between Java applications and MariaDB Server. MariaDB Connector/R2DBC enables the development of Java 8+ applications for MariaDB database products.

**Release date:** 2 Sep 2026

MariaDB Connector/R2DBC 1.4.2 is a [***Stable***](/docs/release-notes/community-server/about/release-criteria.md) ***(GA)*** release.

## Notable Changes

* [R2DBC-128](https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/R2DBC-128) New `maxAllowedPacket` connection parameter, which sets the maximum size in bytes of a packet the connector sends or accepts
  * When set, the value is advertised to the server during the handshake, commands larger than it are rejected before being sent, and oversized packets received from the server are rejected
  * When not set, the connector applies no limit to what it sends, and accepts packets up to a quarter of the JVM maximum heap size, clamped between 16 MB and 1 GB
  * Until authentication completes, a fixed 1 MB limit always applies to received packets
* Added the Netty kqueue native transport for Apple Silicon (`osx-aarch_64`)

## Bugs Fixed

* [R2DBC-127](https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/R2DBC-127) Multipart packets larger than 16 MB are now rejected before authentication, so that a rogue server cannot exhaust client memory before authentication completes
* [R2DBC-129](https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/R2DBC-129) The PBKDF2 iteration factor sent by the server for `parsec` authentication is now bounded by the `connectTimeout` value, and key derivation runs off the event loop
* [R2DBC-131](https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/R2DBC-131) The connector now closes the connection when the server sends a response that does not correspond to a command
* `Connection.close()` no longer fails when the `QUIT` packet cannot be sent
* Fixed a possible `NullPointerException` in connection configuration and in `client_ed25519` authentication
