Authentication and Authorization
Authentication relates to connecting to the database, and Authorization relates to the operations a user can perform once connected to the database.
MariaDB Enterprise Server authentication is performed by user accounts. User accounts are specified by user name, the host name from which the account is connecting, and the authentication method such as password, PAM, or Unix socket.
MariaDB Enterprise Server authorization is issued as privilege grants to user accounts, which define the specific operations the account can perform and the resources they can access.
Additional information is available in the MariaDB Knowledge Base.
