Xpand Node Count

Overview

The Xpand Distributed SQL topology delivers read and write scaling with a shared-nothing architecture.

When deployed in a multi-node configuration:

  • Xpand is highly available and fault tolerant

  • Xpand uses sophisticated data distribution to achieve data protection and load rebalancing

  • Parallel query evaluation provides efficient execution of complex queries, such as JOINs and aggregated operations

Compatibility

  • Xpand Distributed SQL

Initial Xpand Node Count

Initial Xpand node count is defined at time of service launch.

By default, this topology can be launched with as few as 1 node and as many as 6 nodes. Extended options are available for Power Tier customers.

Power Tier customers have extended node count selection and can launch services with 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, or 21 Xpand nodes.

One-node configurations are for development and testing, and should not be used for production workloads.

For information about how to choose an Xpand node count with the SkySQL DBaaS API, see "Node Count Selections with the SkySQL DBaaS API".

Auto-Scaling

With auto-scaling of nodes, Out/In (horizontal) scaling of Xpand node count can be triggered automatically based on load.

This feature can be enabled or disabled during service launch or after launch.

Manual Scaling

Xpand node count can be manually changed after launch using Self-Service Operations.
