Overview

Returns the name of the default (current) database.

DETAILS

DATABASE() is an information function that returns the default (current) database.

The return value is a string in the utf8 character set.

The default database can be specified when connecting or changed using the USE statement.

The return value when called within a stored routine is the database that the stored routine is associated with.

A NULL is returned if no default database has been set.
