Scale Up/Down

Overview

Node counts on Distributed Transactions services can be changed after initial launch:

  • Scale-up to increase the Xpand node count

  • Scale-down to decrease the Xpand node count

Scale Up

To scale-up the node count:

  1. Log in to MariaDB SkySQL. You will be on the "Your services" page.

  2. Identify the service you want to scale. Services must be in a "Healthy" state to scale.

    • After a Distributed Transactions service with 1 Xpand node is scaled up, scale down can be performed to a minimum of 3 Xpand nodes.

  3. Click on the "Service settings" gear icon (at right) for that service.

  4. Click on the "Scale Nodes" menu item.

  5. Increase the node count to the desired value, then click "Apply Changes".

    • The maximum node count for for Power Tier customers is 21 nodes.

    • The maximum node count for Foundation Tier customer is 6 nodes.

The "Scale Nodes" menu item becomes "Scaling..." until the operation is completed.

Scale Down

To scale-down the node count:

  1. Log in to MariaDB SkySQL. You will be on the "Your services" page.

  2. Identify the service you want to scale.

  3. Click on the "Service settings" gear icon (at right) for that service. Services must be in a "Healthy" state to scale.

  4. Click on the "Scale Nodes" menu item.

  5. Decrease the node count to the desired value, then click "Apply Changes".

    • The minimum node count for scaling down a Distributed Transactions service is 3 nodes.

The "Scale Nodes" menu item becomes "Scaling..." until the operation is completed.
