Comments - apt-upgrade Fails, But the Database is Running

7 years, 8 months ago John Sheppard

I am getting this error on more than one installation and on different Ubuntu OS versions eg ...

Setting up mariadb-server-10.0 (10.0.26+maria-1trusty) ...

  • Stopping MariaDB database server mysqld [ OK ]
  • Starting MariaDB database server mysqld [ OK ]

invoke-rc.d: initscript mysql, action "start" failed.

I tried adding

MYSQLD_STARTUP_TIMEOUT = 60

to /etc/mysql/conf.d/mariadb.cnf but no joy

any ideas appreciated

Take a look at the comments on MDEV-9382 - can you see from the logs how long your system is taking to start?

looking at the logs I'm not sure, I think about 20 secs, I can't see how to attach log, but I am happy to email it to you - john at boxrec.com

If it's only taking 20s, then this could be another issue. Best is to report as a bug (where you can attach logs) and there someone will be able to help try create a repeatable case, or get to the bottom of the failure.
