I've found that the CHAR BYTE data type doesn't support a length the way the BINARY data type does -- see Does MariaDB CHAR BYTE data type allow length to be specified?. Is this expected? If so the CHAR BYTE data type isn't really an alias for the BINARY data type and this page needs to be updated with correct behavior.
