yep.... the documentation is poor. If you use rsync you may use ssh key and skip the parameter wsrep_sst_auth. Otherwise, you need to provide it.
even if not using ssh keys and rsync, rsync uses a direct network connection and doesn't use wsrep_sst_auth.
