For 1.0.x you will need to pre-configure your gluster volumes and replication setup to other nodes and then utilize this as external storage (option 2 rather than 3). This is highlighted in release notes.

https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MCOL-463 tracks this and is targeted for our next major release 1.1 later this year.
