Trying to install MariaDB 5.1.32 in Ubuntu 13.04 x86_64: 0.- The deb pacakages for Ubuntu 13.04 don't work at all. Important things in this instructions are wrong. 1.- It doesn exist a: "./bin/mysql_install_db --user=mysql" in the tarball 2.- The script in: "./scripts/mysql_install_db -user=mysql" doesn't work If you want MariaDB to be successfull you have to be very carefull with this things

5.1.32 is several years old, it wasn't a GA release and isn't even offered at our downloads page. Where did you get the packages and why do you want to install such an ancient version on the newest Ubuntu distribution?
