# LONG and LONG VARCHAR

`LONG` and `LONG VARCHAR` are synonyms for [MEDIUMTEXT](/docs/server/reference/data-types/string-data-types/mediumtext.md).

CREATE TABLE t1 (a LONG, b LONG VARCHAR);

DESC t1;
+-------+------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| Field | Type       | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+-------+------------+------+-----+---------+-------+
