In most respects [MariaDB](https://github.com/mariadb-corporation/docs-release-notes/blob/test/kb/en/mariadb/README.md) will work exactly as MySQL: all commands,\
interfaces, libraries and APIs that exist in MySQL also exist in MariaDB.

## Updates & Bug Fixes

[MariaDB 5.5.51](/docs/release-notes/community-server/old-releases/5.5/5.5.51.md) is a maintenance release. It includes several bugfixes and\
updates, including from MySQL 5.5.51. Notable changes include:

* [XtraDB](/docs/server/server-usage/storage-engines/innodb.md) updated to 5.5.50-38.0
* Fixes for the following [security vulnerabilities](/docs/server/security/cve.md):
  * [CVE-2016-6662](https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2016-6662) ([MDEV-10465](https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-10465)). That allowed a malicious user to create a `my.cnf` in the datadir and, under certain circumstances, execute arbitrary code as mysql (or even root) user. This vulnerability was discovered by [Dawid Golunski](https://legalhackers.com).
  * [CVE-2016-5612](https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2016-5612)
