The error log doesn't seem the clearly explain why the session was closed. I think it should be more clear as to why it fails. Can you open a bug report on the MariaDB Jira under the MaxScale project?
The versions of my back-end mariaDB and Galera are: 10.0.21-MariaDB-wsrep-log wsrep_provider_version :3.10(r8182fa6)
My version of maxscale is MaxScale 2.0.5
Can you try and see if using the latest 2.3 version fixes it?
