Comments - Maxscale not starting on Ubuntu 22.04

I think this might be a problem that's filed as MXS-4599. MaxScale ends up using instructions that aren't allowed on older CPUs that don't support the AVX2 instruction set. This should be fixed in the upcoming MaxScale releases.

If you can enable AVX2 instructions on that virtual machine, it should allow MaxScale to start correctly even with an older version.

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for your quick reply. Indeed that looks like a similar or at least related issue. Strangely enough it did work on U22.04 with even older ESX (hardware).

I did compile from the source code from git but to no avail yet, same issue :(

Any insight in a timeline ?

Regards, Rolf.

If you're still seeing the problem even with the latest code base, could you report what you see on MXS-4599? We'd expect the problem to be fixed by commit d2ed883f26a5cac06b5c9a73f697efb2c461629e but if it's still causing AVX2 instructions to be executed, we'll need to continue investigating.

I am not sure anymore if I got the same error with the code from git.

But the problem for me is solved by changing the EVC setting in VMware. Somebody forgot to update this setting :( Now the VM's have AVX CPU support and Maxscale works as a charme !

Tanks for pointing me in the right direction !
