Being in the ports and packages trees of BSDs is an obvious benefit, both to MariaDB and BSD users.
Most BSDs allow new ports and packages, and their associated maintainers, with little fuss. I think the preferred situation is one where MariaDB and Monty Program make it trivial for ports and package maintainers to keep current and get issues solved, and skilled individuals within each BSD community maintain the trees for their BSD.
If possible, please be sure to test our .tgz source downloads in your BSD build environment and report any bugs on Launchpad, and share necessary or optimized CFLAGS and other such information that will be of benefit to the BSD community.
