During an attempted mariabackup '--prepare' operation from within VirtualBox, if this message is received: InnoDB: Error number 95 means 'Operation not supported'
It indicates that you need to copy the mariabackup files to be WITHIN the virtual machine, not on a VirtualBox shared folder/volume on the host machine. Hope this saves someone else some time in the future!
