No there is no "_r" linked library. I tried to link my reentrant code against the mariadbclient library hoping that it was in fact reentrant but it fails. If I link it against the mysql "_r" library my code works.
I'm not installing the complete mariadb database. I only download the 'C' client library at https://downloads.mariadb.org/client-native/1.0.0/
