Not exactly. Imagine each group as a server, plus the servers (masters, slaves) that DIRECTLY communicate with the first server. Within such groups, id's must be unique.

The followind replication topography is ok:

id1 -> id:2 -> id:3 -> id:1

But of course it is a bad practice.
