# SHOW CHARACTER SET

## Syntax

```sql
SHOW CHARACTER SET
    [LIKE 'pattern' | WHERE expr]
```

## Description

The `SHOW CHARACTER SET` statement shows all available [character sets](https://mariadb.com/docs/server/reference/data-types/string-data-types/character-sets). The `LIKE` clause, if present on its own, indicates which character set names to match. The `WHERE` and `LIKE` clauses can be given to select rows using more general conditions, as discussed in [Extended SHOW](https://mariadb.com/docs/server/reference/sql-statements/administrative-sql-statements/show/extended-show).
