You do not specify the language or client API, nor do you have any links to "doc for mysql". Assuming this is JDBC, https://mariadb.com/kb/en/about-mariadb-connector-j/#streaming-result-sets describes how it supposed to work. If it is not JDBC, you need to formulate your question more precise.
