Thank you for this article. I'd like to mention that you could just add the location of the GPG key right into the repo configuration.

The key gets imported automatically this way. Here is how:

[mariadb]
name = MariaDB
baseurl = http://yum.mariadb.org/5.5/fedora17-amd64
gpgkey=http://yum.mariadb.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-MariaDB
gpgcheck=1
