FAQ sul Contributor Agreement (MCA) di MariaDB

Quali sono gli intenti del MCA?

1. Il detentore originale del copyright e la MariaDB Foundation ottengono congiuntamente il copyright (condiviso) sul codice.
2. Entrambe le parti possono utilizzare la propria copia in maniera indipendente per qualsiasi scopo (come se ogni copia fosse unica e completamente separata).

E se non volessi inviare il codice con il MCA?

Chi non desidera usare il MCA per il codice che intende dare a MariaDB, ha la possibilità di inviarlo con la licenza BSD-new.

Perché richiedete l'assegnazione del copyright?

Abbiamo bisogno di condividere il copyright per le seguenti ragioni:

1. per difendere il copyright o la GPL se qualcuno li viola (è lo stesso motivo per cui anche la Free Software Foundation richiede l'assegnazione del copyright sul codice)
2. per avere la possibilità di donare il codice a MySQL (per esempio per correggere bug di sicurezza o inserire nuove funzionalità)
3. per permettere alle persone che utilizzano il codice di MySQL con una licenza non libera di usare anche MariaDB (il MCA e la BSD ci permettono di concedere a tali società i diritti su tutte le modifiche fatte a MySQL da MariaDB, in modo tale che possano usare MariaDB invece di MYSQL)

Cosa farà la MariaDB Foundation con il codice che invio?

La MariaDB Foundation acconsente a non limitare il modo in cui i licenziatari utilizzano il codice, quando si usa la doppia licenza, né limitare il modo in cui usano il proprio codice.

Where did the MCA come from?

The MCA is based on Sun's Contributor Agreement. We think it is one of the best contributor agreements around!

What's the difference between Sun's SCA and the MCA?

Sun's SCA was unclear in a couple of points which we have fixed in the MCA:

• The patent grant has been made clear that it only affects the donated code, not any other code.
• We added a clarification how code is donated; "Each submission must explicitly be marked that it's donated under the MCA"
• We have made a promise in this FAQ how the MariaDB Foundation will Dual-license code. See Monty's blog post "Thoughts about Dual-licensing Open Source software" for a discussion about this.

What happened to the Monty Program Contributor Agreement?

With the establishment of the MariaDB Foundation, Monty Program Ab transferred all existing signed contributor agreements to the Foundation.
