MySQL Workbench

Overview

MySQL Workbench is a graphical application which can interact with MariaDB Servers, including MariaDB database services on MariaDB SkySQL.

MySQL Workbench is a third-party product. Additional information on MySQL Workbench is available from Oracle Corporation.

Compatibility

MySQL Workbench can be used with:

  • MariaDB Platform for Transactions

  • MariaDB Platform for Analytics

  • MariaDB Platform for Smart Transactions (HTAP)

  • MariaDB Platform for Distributed SQL

Connecting with MySQL Workbench

Note

MySQL Workbench version 8.0.22 (Windows) and 8.0.21 (macOS) were used to prepare these instructions. When using other versions, these instructions may require adjustment.

Older version MySQL Workbench version 8.0.20 is not compatible with MariaDB Platform for Distributed SQL service (Distributed Transactions topology). Users attempting to connect with this client will receive a "Lost connection" error.

To connect to a database service on MariaDB SkySQL through MySQL Workbench:

  1. Determine the connection information for your MariaDB SkySQL database service:

    Default username in the Service Credentials view, or the username you created

    Default password in the Service Credentials view, the password you set on the default user, or the password for the user you created

    SSL tab
    SSL CA File

    Path to the skysql_chain.pem file containing the "Certificate Authority Chain" (Download)

  2. Create a new connection.

  3. In the "Parameters" tab:

    • Fill in the connection information for your service.

    • Remember to specify the port, as MariaDB SkySQL does not use the standard client port.

  4. In the "SSL" tab:

    • In the "Use SSL" drop-down list, select "Require".

    • In the "SSL CA File" text box, enter the path to the downloaded skysql_chain.pem file (Download).

Note

MySQL Workbench raises a warning when connecting to MariaDB Enterprise, given that it is not connecting to MySQL Server. Click "Don't show this message again" and "Continue Anyway" to accept the connection.
