MariaDB MaxScale 21.06 now released as GPL
Posted on August 31, 2024 by Johan Wikman
The major new things related to versions and licensing are:
- MaxScale 21.06, formally known as MaxScale 6.4, is now released under the GPL license, fulfilling the commitments made under the original BSL license.
- MaxScale GPL versions will be maintained for 5 years to ensure that they can be picked up by OS distributions.
- The conversion date from BSL to GPL, that is, the Change Date, is now locked when a new MaxScale GA version is released (according to the intention of the BSL license).Â
- The MaxScale team is happy to accept contributions to all MaxScale versions, as any other GPL project.
- One can now buy licenses for the MaxScale BSL version. MaxScale users without a support agreement can create a ticket through the MaxScale Jira system, where they will receive best-effort support. We recommend users running MariaDB MaxScale for critical applications to obtain MariaDB Enterprise support to ensure rapid resolution of any issues. A support agreement is also beneficial during the initial deployment of MaxScale, as there are numerous ways to utilize and configure MariaDB MaxScale.
