Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation

Find out how MariaDB and MariaDB AX helped the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) analyze petabytes of health data to turn it into smart policy for the digital age.

When IHME was faced with the task of processing petabytes of American health data and analyzing it, they needed a data warehouse and a big data analytical engine that could step up to the task. That challenge? Taking over 10 billion data points and processing the information so it can be submitted to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) project, commissioned by the World Bank in the 1990s. In order to have a healthier America, the data had to be analyzed through multiple lenses; IHME needed a cost-effective, scalable and flexible data engine.
