The Ultimate Guide to High Availability with MariaDB

Could you *please* elaborate on *how* mariabackup is supposed to be used with galera SST

There's an abundance of different ways to set SST up, xtrabackup/xtrabackup-v2 and now someone decides to rebrand xtrabackup-v2 as mariabackup and I decided to try it to avoid the downtime for my +2TB SST to be copied to another Galera host asap.

Could you please tell *what* to set *where* in which configfiles, to make SST work with mariabackup in stead of xtrabackup-v2

Currently I have given up, and only manage to make it say "innobackupex-backup user: not set password: not set" type of errors when trying to use "mariabackup"/mariadb-backup-10.2 on a virtual Ubunut 16.04 and MariaDB10.2.18

Why on earth is it not reading the wsrep_sst_auth that's present in my /etc/mysql/conf.d/galera.cnf file ?!

I am sure it's supposed to work better than that?

i hope you see this and it reaches someone knowledgable in mariabackup function?

Does the new documentation on the mariabackup SST method help? If not, then it might help if you could provide items like:

  • MariaDB error log from the donor node.
  • MariaDB error log from the joiner node.
  • All MariaDB configuration files being used.
