# TO\_SECONDS

## Syntax

```bnf
TO_SECONDS(expr)
```

## Description

Returns the number of seconds from year 0 till `expr`, or NULL if `expr` is not a valid date or [datetime](/docs/server/reference/data-types/date-and-time-data-types/datetime.md).
