Grants from host % vs localhost
Hi I googled if I needed a separate user with grants from localhost even if % was already created. Posts from 10 years ago said yes as localhost used a different socket. Is this still the case?
I prefer to keep mysql.user as uncluttered as possible.

Separate users are not needed. Note however that some setups create anonymous users, which can cause failures to log in as expected from localhost. See Troubleshooting Connection Issues#localhost and %
