Upgrade from old Mysql install to recent Mariadb.

I have an old server that is due for an upgrade. But I have lots of special purpose databases each with their own username and login specifications.

So I was going to upgrade to Mariadb, but when I follow the recommendations...

I've now seen it on 10 deifferent sites: just dump the databases and read them into mariadb....

But for me this starts to fail at the user-datbase. As the users and their passwords are scattered along lots of different applications each with their own way of storing the credentials. So I'm absolutely not looking forward to having to manually copy each of the users from the old install to the new one and then having to figure out where THAT application stored its password.

The old server is running 5.7.42-0ubuntu, the new server seems to run 1:10.6.12-0ubuntu0.22.04.1

Any suggestions on how to accomplish this upgrade?

P.S. I was looking for forums for mariadb, found this "community" but none of the sub-titles seems to match: "users helping users" or something like that. And there WAS a big "as a question" button.... If there is a better place for this, please feel free to move it and/or inform me.
