Introducing SkySQL DBaaS API

SkySQL Portal provides the ease and convenience of starting, managing, and monitoring MariaDB SkySQL services. With this release we are introducing SkySQL DBaaS API, allowing you to programmatically query and manage your services. Available as Technical Preview, our REST-based DBaaS API allows you to perform basic service operations, manage service configuration, retrieve service credentials, and query various service options. Refer to the SkySQL API Documentation for additional details.

Along with the DBaaS API, we are also introducing SkySQL CLI – a command-line interface, Golang SDK, and a Terraform provider. We are sure that these tools will be an indispensable part of your automation toolkit. Refer to the SkySQL CLI repository, Golang SDK repository, and Terraform provider repository for installation and usage instructions. We also have a handy guide here on getting started with SkySQL DBaaS API. You can also download the SkySQL CLI and Golang SDK from the MariaDB Downloads page, and the Terraform provider is available directly in Hashicorp’s Terraform registry.

New Product Versions

The release also brings new MariaDB product versions to SkySQL. Specifically, we are bringing MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.6, MariaDB MaxScale 6.1 and MariaDB Xpand 6.0.2 (Tech Preview) to SkySQL.

MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.6 introduced JSON_TABLE() function that returns a queryable table from JSON data and allows creating a table and joining existing tables from the JSON data. Atomic DDLs were also introduced which, if a server crashed in the middle of a DDL statement, will allow the operation to be rolled back during crash recovery.

Observability Enhancements

We are introducing a new log archive feature in SkySQL, which will allow you to access and download database logs associated with your SkySQL services. Logs generated by your services are kept in isolated encrypted archives accessible only by you. Service error logs are available with this release.

We have made service status metrics more reliable and have added more details to these metrics.

We have also added several new default Alert rules for timely notifications of critical events. Alerts and Notification feature is currently in Technical Preview.
