  • Michael Howard - Chief Executive Officer

    Michael joined MariaDB in January 2016. He brings decades of leadership in the enterprise software, data management and big data industries. Previously, Michael was CEO at C9, which he transformed into one of the leading predictive analytics companies in the CRM space and led through its acquisition by InsideSales. Michael also served as CMO at Greenplum (now Pivotal), the big data division of EMC. He was CEO at Ingrian Networks and OuterBay, and VP of the Internet Division at Veritas and of Data Warehousing at Oracle, where he led the acquisitions of Thinking Machines, OneMeaning and Carleton Corporation. Michael has served on the boards of Acunu and FireEye, and keynoted at a variety of conferences, including EMC World, Oracle OpenWorld, Green Data Center Conference, Data Science Series and many others. Michael holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and Slavic languages and literature from the University of California, Berkeley and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  • Kenneth Paqvalen - Chief Financial Officer

    Kenneth joined MariaDB in March 2013. Previously, he worked at Nokia Siemens Network, as the Head of Finance and Control in Business Development, where he managed the unit responsible for all non-operator business areas such as transport, utilities, government and enterprises. He spent over a decade with Nokia Corporation and has worked in various roles within venturing, structured finance, strategic change and M&A. Kenneth has a master's degree in engineering from Helsinki University of Technology and lives in London.

  • Michael "Monty" Widenius - Chief Technology Officer

    Monty is the “spiritual father” of MariaDB, a renowned advocate for the open source software movement and one of the original developers of MySQL, the predecessor to MariaDB. In addition to serving as CTO for the MariaDB Corporation, he also serves as a board member of the MariaDB Foundation. He was a founder at SkySQL, and the CTO of MySQL AB until its sale to Sun Microsystems (now Oracle). Monty was also the founder of TCX DataKonsult AB, a Swedish data warehousing company. He is the co-author of the MySQL Reference Manual and was awarded in 2003 the Finnish Software Entrepreneur of the Year prize. In 2015, Monty was selected as one of the 100 most influential persons in the Finnish IT market. Monty studied at Helsinki University of Technology and lives in Finland.

  • Roger Bodamer - Chief Product Officer

    Roger joined MariaDB in June 2016. He has more than 20 years of experience building and delivering innovative products to market, as well as deep expertise and knowledge of database architectures. Roger holds several patents for database and middleware technology. His experience leading product development and engineering teams includes 12 years with Oracle’s Database and Application Server development organization where he pioneered products that delivered heterogeneous interoperability, as well as several years as SVP of product operations and engineering at Apple’s PowerSchool division. Roger served as GM at 10gen (now MongoDB Inc.). He was a founder and CEO at software company UpThere, Inc. Roger also held leadership positions at OuterBay and Efficient Frontier. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Saxion Hogescholen in the Netherlands and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

  • Jon Bakke - Chief Revenue Officer

    Jon joined MariaDB in May 2017. He has 22 years of enterprise database experience, with an exceptional track record in innovation, customer service, solution development, delivery and global team leadership. Prior to MariaDB, Jon managed large, worldwide field organizations at Oracle and MarkLogic where his teams positioned and serviced critical business systems to a wide range of industries across the globe. Jon’s technical expertise transcends a wide range of IT specialties including ultra-scale database deployments, enterprise security and multi-model database technology. Jon earned a master’s at East Carolina University and currently resides in the Washington metro area.

  • Kaj Arnö - Chief Evangelist

    Kaj is a software industry generalist, having served as VP Professional Services, VP Engineering, CIO and VP Community Relations at MySQL prior to the acquisition by Sun Microsystems. At Sun Microsystems, Kaj served as MySQL Ambassador and VP of Database Community. He previously served as Chairman of Carus (Åland) and was founder, CEO and the main entrepreneur at Polycon. Kaj is a board member at Footbalance Systems Oy and currently resides in Germany. 

  • Alex Suh - Board Member

    Alex Suh is a founding Managing Director with California Technology Ventures, LLC, a Southern California venture capital firm that focuses its investments in the fields of Life Sciences and Information Technology. Alex is the managing director that invests in Life Sciences as well as Information Technology.

  • Abdul Guefor - Board Member

    Abdul is an Investment Director, based in London, covering Western European transactions. His investment focus areas include Cloud Computing, Internet of Things and Mobility.

    Before rejoining Intel Capital in 2015, Abdul served as Treasury Managing Director from 2006 where he sat on the Intel Capital investment committee and reviewed the quality and structure of deals across the region. He also held the position of Intel Assistant Treasurer from 2010 until 2015, leading the team executing fixed income investing, FX trading and cash management in EMEA. Abdul first joined Intel Capital in 1999, holding various positions including Investment Director for wireless investments.

    Abdul's investments include Cambridge Silicon Radio, Wirtualna Polska, DIGIA, Centrum.CZ, Epichem, what3words, ProGlove and Chronocam. He also worked on M&A transactions to acquire businesses for Intel in Denmark, Russia and Germany.

    Before Intel, Abdul spent 7 years with PwC Corporate Finance, was a design engineer with Plessey Semiconductors and a robotics researcher with Ikerlán in Spain.

    Abdul is a UK-qualified Chartered Accountant and holds an honours degree in Electronic Engineering.

  • Ralf Wahlsten - Board Member

    Ralf was an investor in MySQL AB from the year 2000 and followed the journey closely. Ralf worked as a management consultant with Indevo AB, At Kearney Inc. and Booz Allen Hamilton. Ralf founded Sirius Consulting Oy, a consulting company that also invests in start-ups. In 2009, the investment work became a full-time occupation when Ralf co-founded Open Ocean Capital. A native of Finland, Ralf received his MSc from Helsinki University of Technology 1987.

  • Scott Raskin - Board Member

    Scott Raskin is president and CEO of Mindjet, provider of Spigit, the leading enterprise innovation platform, and MindManager, the world’s most popular mind mapping software. Scott has lead Mindjet since 2006 through significant organic growth and M&A, and Mindjet software is used by 83% of the Fortune 500. Raskin joined Mindjet after serving as president and COO at Telelogic, where his efforts resulted in an $845M acquisition by IBM. Scott is the current president of the San Francisco Bay Chapter of the World Presidents' Organization (YPO/WPO), a peer network of 21,000+ company presidents and CEOs that spans across 100 countries. Raskin is a dynamic leader with over two decades of experience building high-growth, profitable technology companies, and he continues to build upon his record of success at Mindjet and through his various activities as a technology, SaaS and innovation expert.

  • Dmitry Chikhachev - Board Member

    Dmitry Chikhachev is a co-founder and managing partner at Runa Capital, where he is primarily focused on driving the fund’s performance and closing deals. Dmitry also serves as head of board at IT-cluster Phystech, a large infrastructural project at MIPT — one of Europe’s leading universities that trains students in various fields of modern science and technology. Dmitry’s MSc in Applied Maths and Physics at MIPT and strong technical background give him a deep understanding of the latest developments in areas like cloud computing, hosted services, and virtualization, as well as financial, healthcare, and educational IT-technology.
