MariaDB SkySQL is a database-as-a-service (DBaaS) originally developed by MariaDB plc. SkySQL was spun off as an independent entity from 2023-2025 and was acquired by MariaDB on August 26, 2025 in a move to accelerate cloud deployment options for MariaDB customers.

The SkySQL capabilities have become part of MariaDB Cloud, the company’s DBaaS and multicloud offering.

MariaDB database software can be deployed anywhere including: on premises, private cloud, hybrid cloud, public cloud and multicloud. Customers can deploy in these configurations on their own (self-managed) as well as in a fully managed way via MariaDB Cloud (formerly SkySQL).
