New MariaDB Enterprise Server Releases with Backported Features and ARM Support now available

MariaDB is pleased to announce the immediate availability of MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.5.12-8, 10.4.21-13, 10.3.31-12, and 10.2.40-13, after we released our first GA of MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.6.4-1 (blog post) a few weeks ago.

MariaDB Enterprise Server is an enhanced, hardened and secured version of MariaDB Community Server that delivers enterprise reliability, stability and long-term support as well as greater operational efficiency when it comes to managing large database deployments for business and mission critical applications. MariaDB Enterprise Server offers additional features needed for production workloads that are not available in the community edition, such as enterprise audit and enterprise backup, and also backports certain enterprise features to older versions so customers can take advantage of critical fixes and features immediately instead of having to upgrade to the newest version.

New Feature: Support for ARM64

With these releases we are also addressing new requests from our MariaDB Enterprise customers by adding support for ARM64 for all release series of MariaDB Enterprise Server (10.2-10.6). By adding ARM support, customers now have the option to run MariaDB on less expensive hardware on prem and on less expensive cloud infrastructure.

MariaDB Enterprise Feature Backports

Being able to backport features from newer release series to older versions is one key advantage of MariaDB Enterprise Server. Quality assurance and internal processes do not always allow customers to upgrade production environments to the newest and greatest version, although some of the new features would be of value. MariaDB Enterprise can help in this case, as we can backport highly requested features to existing versions in cases where we can assure that a backported feature does not decrease the stability of that version of MariaDB Enterprise. Here is a list of all the features that were backported recently.

Backported Feature from MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.5 into 10.4:

  • Support added for Galera Global Transaction ID in MariaDB Enterprise Cluster (Galera), which replicates MariaDB Global Transaction ID to other nodes in the cluster

Backported Feature from MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.6 into 10.5, 10.4 and 10.3:

  • Enhanced consistency for Semi-Sync Replication
    • When rpl_semi_sync_slave_enabled=ON, consistency is guaranteed for a primary server in an HA (primary/replica) topology when using semi-synchronous replication
    • Prior to this release, when using semi-synchronous replication, if a primary crashed before sending a transaction to the replica, on restart the old primary would not necessarily be consistent with the rest of the cluster

Backported Feature from MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.6 into 10.5 and 10.4:

  • MariaDB Enterprise Audit allows database-specific and table-specific filters
  • Parameter server-audit-load-on-error set to OFF can be used to enforce that the server does not start in case MariaDB Enterprise Audit is not working correctly. It is required that the plugin is loaded with the FORCE option.

Backported Feature from MariaDB Enterprise Server 10.6 into 10.5:

  • Enhanced compatibility with Sybase SQL Anywhere through sql_mode=EXTENDED_ALIASES
    • With sql_mode=EXTENDED_ALIASES, alias resolution and use of column aliases in the SQL SELECT list and WHERE clause
    • With sql_mode=EXTENDED_ALIASES, support use of an alias in the SELECT list before the alias is defined
    • With sql_mode=EXTENDED_ALIASES, if the same label is used for an alias and a column, the alias is used
