Helsinki, Finland – Oct. 11, 2011 – SkySQL Ab, the first choice in affordable MySQL® database solutions for the enterprise and cloud, today announced rapid growth and success in its first year in operations, fueled by new customers, partnerships, and corporate growth.
Led by strong worldwide demand for affordable, high quality, expert MySQL database solutions and services, the company has signed more than 160 new customers. SkySQL has grown to serve customers located in 26 countries, across all industries. Recently-added customers include market leaders such as Craigslist, Club Med, Constant Contact, Marin Software, De Particulier à Particulier, and La Poste.
In April 2011, SkySQL introduced the SkySQL™ Reference Architecture, aimed at reducing the cost and complexity of deploying data infrastructure solutions for the MySQL database. Since then, the company’s leadership in this area, as well as its rapid growth, has attracted leading technology and distribution partners, including Monty Program, Webyog, Linbit, Severalnines, ScaleDB, Shadowsoft, Sphinx Technologies, Zmanda, Creo Systems, Globalink, Touch Solutions, and many more. These partnerships have allowed SkySQL to deliver new solutions and services based on its Reference Architecture.
“The first year can often make or break a young company,” said Ralf Wahlsten, chairman and investor in SkySQL. “Establishing a name for a startup is often a giant hurdle, especially in this economic climate. But it is one that SkySQL has surpassed, as evidenced by the number of customers, partners, and talented employees that have been attracted to the company. SkySQL’s rapid growth validates the value and quality of expertise that can only be delivered by a company with an innate understanding of what customers want from their MySQL solutions provider.”
SkySQL also continues to garner positive feedback from its customers. Regular customer satisfaction surveys consistently give high marks – an average of 4.7 on a 5.0 Likert scale based on industry standards – for the company’s technical support capabilities.
In June 2011, the company was awarded 900,000 Euros in funding from Tekes, Finland’s main public funding agency for research, development, and innovation. The award, which will be used to fund MySQL database-related research and development, has further accelerated SkySQL’s transition from a services company into a products company.
“Our commitment to delivering affordable, expert MySQL solutions and services for both the enterprise and cloud resonates with customers,” said Ulf Sandberg, CEO at SkySQL. “Organizations of all sizes and from all industries around the world continue to turn to SkySQL for those purposes, which has made it possible for the company to invest in research and development that will ultimately extend our customers’ investments in MySQL technologies across the enterprise and into the cloud.”
Founded by a number of former MySQL AB executives, personnel, and investors, SkySQL began offering software, services and support for the MySQL database in October 2010.
