HELSINKI, FINLAND and LONDON, UK – 18 Mar 2015 – MariaDB, the leading provider of open source database technology, today announced Transticket, the leading Nordic ticketing platform provider as its latest customer. Transticket, founded in 2005, is the ticketing platform used by companies such as the ATP Tennis tour, SkyView and the Swedish Hockey league.
Driven by the evolution of technology and new customer demands, the events and ticketing industry has been maturing at a fast rate. For the seven million Swedish adult consumers, it wasn’t only about getting the best seat in the house, it was about buying the complete experience. This meant consumers wanted to buy hot dogs, beers or T-shirts on their smartphones for example. Transticket needed a new technology solution to support the increased customer demands and deliver the value-added services to attract new customers.
With the rapid expansion of its customer base after winning its biggest contract to date, Transticket needed to upgrade its data storage to handle the growth of data a consumers used applications such as web search and payments services. Transticket looked for a solution which could handle transactions at scale, and replace the existing MySQL database.
MariaDB was chosen because its Enterprise subscription offered a robust, proven solution to help Transticket handle transactions coming from its e-commerce and customer relationship management platform. With the deployment of Galera Cluster and MariaDB’s Remote Database Administrator, Transticket’s IT team now had the confidence to help grow the business internationally without worrying about routine technical issues.
The migration of 150 Gigabytes of customer, internal and partner data from MySQL to MariaDB happened in two phases took only six days in total with Transticket having a twenty-minute down time throughout the entire process. Today, MariaDB is used by Transticket to processes millions of database transactions each month. The improvement of customer experience helped Transticket increase its market share of 15 percent against larger, more well-known rivals.
