MariaDB launches Ambassadors Program

New MariaDB Corporation initiative underlines commitment to MariaDB Foundation and Global Community

Helsinki, Finland – November 11th, 2014 – MariaDB Corporation, today announced funding of a new MariaDB Ambassadors Program on behalf of the MariaDB Foundation. This program is the latest support the company is providing MariaDB Foundation and its growing global community.

Colin Charles, Chief Evangelist at MariaDB Corporation said, “The MariaDB Ambassador Program is set up to recognize and support experienced contributors to the MariaDB and MySQL ecosystem who are responsible for representing, promoting and expanding the use of MariaDB and its ideals to the larger open source community and general public.”

“There are two distinct types of ambassadors, all of whom will be volunteers,” said Charles. “Community Ambassadors will promote grassroots adoption in their specific region. Platform Ambassadors will contribute virtually through the creation of code, patches, features, and who lead MariaDB engineering efforts at their respective organisations.”

“MariaDB Corporation will provide each Community Ambassador with funds to organize local MariaDB meetups and invite Platform Ambassadors to MariaDB Engineering meetings as guests,” concluded Charles.

The MariaDB Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the adoption of the MariaDB database, the open source, relational database developed by MySQL founder Michael “Monty” Widenius.

MariaDB adoption has shown an annual compound growth rate of 488% since its launch in 2009. Its common use cases include ecommerce, content management and delivery, mobile and social infrastructure, and user data management. MariaDB has particular strengths as the underlying database technology for building and managing Webscale applications.
