Today, we’re excited to announce that MariaDB plc and IBM® have joined forces to make MariaDB Enterprise Server available on IBM Power® architecture (ppc64le). Clients leveraging MariaDB Enterprise Server on IBM Power benefit from enterprise reliability, stability, long-term support, increased performance and greater operational efficiency when managing large database deployments for business- and mission-critical applications. The combination of MariaDB Enterprise Server on IBM Power is ideal for artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced workloads, particularly in industries that are heavy users of hybrid cloud, including financial services, healthcare, retail, telecommunications and public sector.

Solution

IBM Power architecture is known for its scalability and performance in handling the most demanding workloads. It provides superior virtualization and management features for flexibility and security with better isolation and an integrated stack. IBM Power lets organizations modernize their applications and infrastructure with a frictionless hybrid cloud experience. IBM Power servers provide the agility, reliability and sustainability organizations require.

MariaDB Server is one of the most popular databases in the world. It reaches more than a billion users through Linux distributions and has been downloaded over one billion times. MariaDB Enterprise Server offers enterprise reliability, stability and additional features such as non-blocking backups and advanced audit capabilities that enterprises need to run in production confidently. When combined with MariaDB MaxScale, an advanced database proxy, MariaDB Enterprise Server also provides additional high availability including automatic failover for organizations that can’t afford to skip a beat.

Organizations choose MariaDB Enterprise Server on Power because they require increased performance, reliability, security at the server level, and scalability for their application as well as best-in-class database expertise in hybrid cloud environments.

Achieving 4x Performance Improvements

Running MariaDB Enterprise Server with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, customers benefit from up to 4.22x the performance on Power10 vs. Intel x86-based systems. The key advantages of the MariaDB Enterprise Server running on Power10 servers include up to 900,000 transactions per second, enabling high-performance workloads on fewer cores than other platforms, and reducing software and support costs.

The tested performance of Power10 indicates that Power is a capable and high-performing system well-suited for MariaDB workloads and customers’ growing data-intensive demands.
