MariaDB OpenWorks 2023 – Dive into the Agenda

Our global user conference, MariaDB OpenWorks, is happening May 9-10, 2023. We’ve structured the event so everyone around the globe can participate virtually in all the sessions and the keynote. We will also have an incredibly special component of the conference that will be live in New York, with the added benefit of certifications, workshops and roundtables – plus, of course, seeing each other IRL for collaboration, in-depth conversations and networking.

Whether it’s virtually or in person, we hope you’ll be able to join us for MariaDB OpenWorks!

Forty Breakout Sessions

Five tracks run in parallel over two days.  The tracks are as follows:

  • Maximizing Cloud Innovation and Savings with MariaDB SkySQL Cloud Database Services
  • Scaling Your Business Up and Out Using MariaDB Xpand for Distributed SQL
  • Getting the Most Out of Your MariaDB Investment: Optimizations & Best Practices
  • Going Beyond Transactions: Data Warehousing, Serverless Analytics and More
  • Making the Switch to MariaDB

The first two tracks cover our latest innovations around our second-generation cloud database service, SkySQL, and our ultra-scalable distributed SQL database, Xpand. The third track covers tools for configuration, provisioning, benchmarking, monitoring and management of our MariaDB portfolio in the cloud but also on-premises. We’ve also scheduled several sessions on the latest and greatest improvements we’ve made to our long-standing flagship product, Enterprise Server. Finally, the fifth track is on innovations around analytics, including novel ways to use ColumnStore, our columnar storage engine that enables Enterprise Server to offer reporting and analytics, and a new Serverless Analytics offering in SkySQL, currently in Tech Preview.

Many of the track sessions are being delivered by our product, customer, and field engineers, with the balance being product managers and customer case studies mostly delivered by MariaDB customers, including the Development Bank of Singapore, Hughes Network Systems, Dompe Pharmaceuticals, Samsung, SUPERCAT, and Certified Power Solutions.  Our key partners will also join in on panels and joint presentations with our MariaDB experts, including Amazon Web Services, Google, SADA, and Qlik.

Don’t agonize over picking between parallel sessions, as all sessions will be recorded, and you can catch those sessions onDemand after the show.  Instead, pick the ones you are most interested in asking questions about and get real-time answers from the presenters and our experts online during the conference.

Want More? Join Us in Person in New York City

For anyone who’s attended OpenWorks in the past, you will remember the energy, in-depth conversations with our experts, and hands-on learning opportunities that are difficult to recreate in a virtual show. That’s why we’re also hosting an in-person event simultaneously that will give you access to even more value.

In addition to the breakout sessions, there are in-person workshops, including:

  • Performance Tuning – Databases and Queries
  • Using Xpand for Extraordinary Scale with Distributed SQL
  • Advanced Security for MariaDB Databases
  • Migrating to MariaDB, Step by Step
  • Launching and Maintaining a Cloud Data Service – SkySQL & the Remote Observability Service
  • Using ColumnStore for Data Warehousing and Analytics

Workshops are 3-hour long technical deeps that will build valuable skills that you can take back and implement in your work. For those that want to prove that they are masters of MariaDB, we are offering certification live on site, which is one of the most popular activities we’ve offered in the past.

Then there are the intangible but extremely valuable benefits of joining an in-person event: the excitement of being in person for the keynotes on the main stage, meeting new peers, discussing key challenges and solutions, and brainstorming that only comes through impromptu face-to-face conversations at the welcome reception, at breaks between sessions, or lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday (all included with the NYC Conference Pass).

So, hopefully, I’ve convinced you that this is definitely worth your time to join the virtual and, better yet, join us in New York City.  It’s springtime. You couldn’t ask for a better time to enjoy the Big Apple or the best pizza outside of Italy – hey, I’m from the Bronx, you didn’t expect me to say Chicago did you?

If you’d like to join us in person, take advantage of our early-bird special that runs through the end of March. Register today at openworks.mariadb.com.
